Celebrate Your Right To Be Independent

One of the most moving and memorable scenes for me on film happens in Jane Campion's The Piano.  It's at the end when Ada, played by Holly Hunter falls out of the boat and plunges under the sea.  She is suspended, surrounded by total silence and darkness.  She can't hear.  She can't breathe.  She can't scream. For a long time, I wondered why I found that scene so completely terrifying.  It's not because of the obvious - she's drowning - it was something deeper.  In that moment I deeply felt what it would be like not to have a voice, not to be able to speak.

How lucky single women are in America to live life as they choose, to have a voice.  How will you make the most of yours today?

Special thanks to SweetArt Cupcakes for their photography.
